The Interior Ministry is on high alert ahead of Christmas celebrations, which start in Egypt on January 7.
Interior Minister Magdy Abdel Ghaffar held a meeting with his aides to revise security plans set for Christmas celebrations, a security source told MENA on Tuesday.
Central security and civil defense troops, as well as the special forces, criminal investigation bureau and traffic police, will take part in the plan, the source said.
The troops will secure the Cathedral in Abbassiya and 2,626 churches across Egypt, the source added.
Any attempt to spoil the celebrations will be firmly countered, he stressed.
