
Attacks Sunday in central and northern Iraq killed 24 people and injured 49, security officials and witnesses said. Fifteen people were killed and 40 injured in a series of car bombings in several districts of the capital Baghdad, police and witnesses told dpa. In a separate incident, four gunmen were killed when members of a pro-government militia returned fire after their checkpoint came under attack south of the capital, police said. In the northern city of Mosul, two soldiers were killed and four injured in a bombing targeting an army patrol, security officials said. In Baqouba, north-east of Baghdad, police said three people were killed and five injured in a marketplace bombing.
