Prime minister Haidar al-Abadi
Cairo - Arab Today

Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim Al Jaafari has called on the Arab League to take a clear and strong stance against the Turkish incursion into the Iraqi territory.

During an extraordinary meeting of Arab foreign ministers on Thursday, Jaafari called on Turkey to withdraw its troops immediately and respect Iraqi sovereignty.

Iraq seeks to resolve the crisis via diplomatic dialogue with Turkey, Jaafari said.

He noted that his country is keen on relations with Turkey, but this does not mean to allow violating Iraq's sovereignty.

Iraq with all social, ethnic and religious components is fighting Daesh on behalf of the region and the world, Jaafari said.

He noted that his country needs military, financial and economic assistance to fight Daesh.

The Iraqi forces managed to restore large parts of areas controlled by Daesh, Jassari said.

The Arab League Council held its extraordinary meeting on Thursday to discuss Turkish troops' incursion into Iraq's territories.

During the opening session of the meeting, Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry expressed Egypt's condemnation of the Turkish incursion into Iraq.

On December 4, Turkish troops entered Iraqi territories under the pretext of training the Kurdish Peshemrga forces near the city of Mosul but the Iraqi government responded to the incursion angrily and called for withdrawal.
