Officials from Jordan and Egypt held a meeting at the labour ministry on Tuesday to discuss provisions of a 2012 memo of understanding and ways to enforce it "in a manner so as to serve Egyptian workers in the Kingdom." The ministry's assistant undersecretary for technical affairs, Mohammad Qudah, said Jordan attached great importance to the Egyptian labour force in the Kingdom due to its expertise, efficiency and achievement, noting that the Egyptian workforce in Jordan is the largest among 108 countries, accounting for 62 per cent of foreign labour.
Egypt's delegation, led by the consul at the country's embassy, Sharif Mukhtar, thanked Jordan and the ministry's staff for their handling of Egyptian labour and called for closer cooperation between the two countries.
The Jordanian side pointed to its daunting efforts to streamline the local labour market and control illegal foreign labour.
