The Lower House Speaker, Atef Tarawneh, said that the council has signed a memorandum of understanding with its Iraqi counterpart aimed at enhancing the parliamentary work in legislation and oversight spheres, adding that the House of Representatives is ready to offer any required expertise to the Iraqis. During a press conference that Tarawneh and his Iraqi counterpart Salim Jubouri addressed, the two sides reaffirmed the issues that they discussed during the official talks such as the depth of Jordanian-Iraqi relations and ways of developing these in all fields, especially working together to fight against terrorism and extremism in the region and its sources.
Tarawneh said that he supported the initiative launched in Amman by Jubouri to put in place an Arab unified law as a precautionary procedure that will help fight terrorism, instead of talking about ways to eradicate it after terror incidents take place.
He clarified that Jordan has never interfered in the affairs of any country "but we were at the forefront in the fight against terrorism in the region and our message is to fight terrorism wherever it exists." He also stressed that "the security of any Arab country is tantamount to the Kingdom's own safety and we are affected by what is happening in the region. That is why we seek to cooperate with all our brothers to find a political solution to all the regional problems, particularly in Iraq and Syria." Jubouri said the Iraqi Council of Representatives is discussing the investment agreement, which was signed recently between Jordan and Iraq, and will endorse it, adding that the Iraqi council will approve any bill that would activate the work and cooperation between the two countries.
