Jordan, Oman discuss regional issues in officials' meeting

Jordan Deputy Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Affairs Nasser Judeh and Omani Foreign Minister Youssef Bin Alawi Abdullah Saturday discussed Jordanian-Omani ties and challenges facing the Middle East, Petra reported.

During the talks, the top diplomats agreed on the need for a collective effort to fight terrorism and terrorist organisations "that use Islam as a cover, but they have nothing to do with Islam," Petra reported.

They also talked about the Palestinian situation as the peace talks with Israel remained stalled, with Judeh reiterating the importance of relaunching effective, serious and time-framed negotiations that would ultimately embody the two-state solution, an independent Palestinian state along the pre-June 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on international terms of reference and the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative.

The ministers also discussed the situation in Syria, Yemen, Iraq and Libya and were unanimous that dialogue should prevail to find political solutions to the crises in the four countries that guarantee their security and territorial safety.

They said they will pursue consultation "at all levels, particularly as the two sides see eye to eye on the various issues".
