Jordan's Ambassador to Israel Walid Obeidat submitted a letter to the Israeli Foreign Ministry on Tuesday protesting Israeli measures to prevent Muslims from entering Al Aqsa Mosque.
The ambassador said that the Israeli authorities closed some of the gates to the mosque and intensified security personnel presence near its compound. He urged Israel to stop such provocative acts and violations against Al Aqsa Mosque.
Jordan will continue to take all measures to prevent such practices by the Israeli forces, the ambassador said, adding that he also urged the international community to pressure Israel to halt such violations.
Al Aqsa mosque, located in east Jerusalem, is a holy place for both Muslims and Jews. Several clashes erupted earlier in April between the Palestinians and Israeli army and police when Jewish settlers broke into the yards of the mosque.
