Jordanian King Abdullah II on Wednesday called for more efforts at the regional and international levels to reach a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the state-run Petra news agency reported.
During his meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, the Jordanian king stressed the necessity of ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip and starting the reconstruction of the coastal enclave.
The international community needs to shoulder its responsibilities towards Gaza, especially amidst Israeli attacks that destroy the infrastructure and services in Gaza, he added.
He said that Jordan will continue to provide aid to the Palestinians in Gaza to ease their suffering, calling for resuming the Palestinian-Israeli peace talks leading to the creation of an independent Palestinian state.
The Jordanian monarch also warned against Israeli unilateral measures in Al-Quds (East Jerusalem), noting that the Israeli violations against the holy Islamic and Christian sites will have serious consequences.
Jordan oversees the holy Christian and Islamic sites in Al-Quds, which the Palestinians envisage as the capital for their future state.
