The government, on Wednesday, warned of the continued Israeli assaults on the Al-Aqsa Mosque and providing protection to Jewish extremists to desecrate the holy shrine in a manner that would inflame religious conflict at a time when the world seeks to fight extremism and terrorism.
State Minister for Media Affairs, Mohammad Momani, condemned Israeli forces' storming of the Al-Aqsa yards and sealing its gates and allowing access to Jewish extremists and attacking Muslim worshippers. Momani, who is also government spokesperson, said Israel's provocative measures against the holy shrine threaten to touch off the passions of more than 1.7 billion Muslims across the world.
He called on international organizations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Arab League and the UNESCO to pressure Israeli authorities to lift the siege on Al-Aqsa Mosque, enable Muslim worshipers to enter it and stop violations against the holy mosque.
