
In a separate meeting, King Abdullah and Lebanese Prime Minister, Tammam Salam, discussed developments in the Middle East and overall challenges facing the region.
The King expressed Jordan's support for Lebanon in facing different challenges in order to strengthen the unity of the Lebanese people and enable them to build a better future.
Talks during the meeting also tackled the Syrian and Iraqi issues, as King Abdullah stressed the need to find a comprehensive solution to the Syrian crisis and support whatever promotes the unity and consensus among the Iraqi people.
In another meeting, the King discussed with Italian Prime Minister, Matteo Renzi, the overall situation in the Middle East, especially in Syria and Iraq, as well as the efforts to achieve regional peace.
On the situation in Iraq, the King emphasized Jordan's support for the unity of the country to achieve a national consensus regarding various challenges, noting that the creation of the new Iraqi government is an important step to build upon for the benefit and interest of Iraq.
Regarding the Syrian crisis, his Majesty reiterated warning of the repercussions of the continuing conflict, particularly on the neighboring countries hosting Syrian refugees, noting that Jordan bears massive burdens as a result of hosting a large number of refugees which requires increasing and intensifying the international support for the Kingdom.
King Abdullah also stressed the importance of intensifying the international community's efforts to restore momentum to the peace process after reaching a permanent halt to the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and help to create conditions conducive to the resumption of Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations according to the two-state solution and international legitimacy resolutions to address all final status issues leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state as per 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Italian Prime Minister reviewed his country's vision regarding the latest developments in the Middle East, expressing the Italian willingness to work in collaboration with Jordan to deal with the various regional challenges.
His Majesty also met with President and CEO of the International Rescue Committee, David Miliband, and discussed efforts to deal with the Syrian refugee crisis to neighboring countries as well as the relief efforts exerted by the Kingdom as a result of hosting the refugees.
Miliband stressed the Committee's support for Jordan in this field, emphasizing the importance of the international support for the Kingdom.
The meeting was attended by Royal Court Chief, director of the King's Office, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Affairs and the King's Advisor and Rapporteur of the National Policies Council.
