
King Abdullah II of Jordan asserted on Tuesday the vital role played by Egypt in the Middle East to reach stability and to overcome regional challenges.
The king made the remarks during a meeting with members of the US Congress.
King Abdullah reiterated Jordan's stance in support of the Iraqi government and its efforts to enhance security and stability in the Arab country, the Jordanian News Agency (Petra) cited a statement by the Royal Hashemite Court.
During the meetings the King thanked the Congress's Foreign Affairs Committee and the Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa for the support they provide to Jordan, mainly passing a draft law to increase the US military assistance to Jordan.
The talks also touched on ways to boost coordination between the two countries to confront the terrorist organizations and the threat they pose to the world.
King Abdullah underlined the efforts being exerted by Jordan to protect the Muslim and Christian holy places in al-Quds (East Jerusalem) and to support the steadfastness of the Palestinian people there, while highlighting the Hashemite custodianship of the holy places in Jerusalem.
Meanwhile, members of the US Congress said that Jordan and the U.S. enjoy deep ties and partnership in various domains. Further, they stressed their keenness to cement these ties and build on what has been achieved. They also noted the key role played by Jordan to address the various challenges facing the Middle East.
