
Jordanian King Abdullah II on Monday called for intensifying international efforts to revive the Middle East peace talks.
The king, who received US Senate Majority Leader Senator Mitch McConnell, said that negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis must be based on the two-state solution and the international legitimacy resolutions to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the region.
The meeting also dealt with Jordanian-US ties and ways to enhance them in various fields, along with several regional and international developments.
The two sides discussed ways to combat terrorism and extremist ideology. The king said efforts should be ramped up to fend off the terrorism threats on the region and the whole world.
King Abdullah II also emphasized the need to find a comprehensive political solution to the Syrian crisis, and also underlined the importance of boosting security and stability in Iraq, Yemen and Libya.
For his part, McConnell hailed Jordan's efforts in addressing various regional challenges aiming to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East.
