King Abdullah II of Jordan on Sunday said the next Arab Summit to be held in Amman will help restore momentum to the Palestinian issue, the state-run Petra news agency reported.

At talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Amman, the two sides focused on developments in the Middle East.

The King said the Arab Summit will focus also on the issue of Jerusalem and regional issues.

Talks also focused on the need for continued coordination towards the upcoming steps to launch serious and effective peace talks based on the two state solution and the international resolutions.

On protection of Jerusalem and holy Islamic and

Christian sites, the King said Jordan will work with regional and intentional players to preserve the historic status quo in Jerusalem.

Talks also focused on the need for coordination during the upcoming stage with the U.S. administration in this regard.

Abbas briefed the Jordanian leader on efforts exerted by the Palestinian side to revive peace talks.

He also voiced appreciation for Jordan's role in supporting the Palestinians.

In remarks to the press, Abbas said the talks were important and stressed on the need for coordination with the new U.S. administration to relaunch serious peace talks between the Palestinians and the Israelis.
