The Journey of Hope boat was welcomed home on Monday in a ceremony held at Marina Crescent under auspices of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
The party to celebrate the safe return of the Journey of Hope on arrival of the boat, after visiting 19 countries over nearly seven months, was attended by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.
The event was also attended by First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, and Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah, together with a host of Sheikhs, senior officials, families of journey members and several others.
The party started with the Kuwaiti National Anthem, followed by verses from the Holy Quran, and then a documentary on the details of the journey entitled "Dream Come True." General Secretary of the Board of Trustees and Executive Director of Journey of Hope Yousef Al-Jassim addressed the event, expressing gratitude to His Highness the Amir for his continuous support to the journey, which was essential to secure it success.
Al-Jassim also appreciated the backing by His Highness the Prime Minister whose "direct support was the major factor for achieving the set goals of the journey." For his part, member of the boat's Board of Trustees and head of the crew, Jasem Al-Rashid Al-Bader, briefed the gathering on the course of the Journey of Hope and the activities carried out in the target countries.
The journey embodied the spirit of collective human action, and constituted a national epic for the State of Kuwait and the Kuwaiti people, Al-Bader said.
By the end of the event, His Highness the Premier was handed over a souvenir plaque in appreciation of the enormous attention by the State of Kuwait to the persons with disabilities.
Then the Prime Minister expressed in a press statement his pride of what the "sons of Kuwait" have achieved in the journey "that carried to the world a noble humanitarian message and targets, for caring of this dear category of people with their obvious social and sports activities." He also lauded the persistent efforts by the members of the Journey and those in charge for their efforts to highlight the "civilized face of Kuwait."
