Khalaf lauds role of Sheikh Abdullah al-Nouri charity in Senegal

Kuwait Ambassador to Senegal Mohammad Fadhel Khalaf on Thursday commended the role of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Nouri Charity Society in the humanitarian activities in Senegal and other African countries.
In a statement issued by the embassy in Dakar and received by KUNA in Kuwait, Khalaf welcomed the outcome of the visit to Senegal by Director of the Society's Projects Division Jamal Al-Nami.
During his stay in Dakar, Al-Nami met a number of Senegalese officials including head of the presidential office Mokhtar Cessi, head of 10 municipal councils in the city Ali Sall and president of the Senegalese heritage restoration society Habib Diallo.
The meetings focused on ways to improve the friendly ties between the two countries and enhance cooperation in the relief efforts, the statement pointed out.
"Sheikh Abdullah Al-Nouri Charity Society implements several charitable projects in Senegal and other African countries in the areas of education and healthcare with a view to curbing the three-pronged threat of ignorance, poverty and disease," the statement citing the diplomat as saying.
Ambassador Khalaf called on the Kuwaiti charities to coordinate with the ministries of foreign affairs, and social affairs and labor in the humanitarian activities in Senegal and other African countries which share cultural and religious grounds with Kuwait.
He called on them to fund the launching of gynecological and maternity clinics in the rural areas in Senegal which suffer from high infant mortality rates.
He spoke highly of the close ties between Kuwait and Senegal, recalling the contributions of Senegal to Kuwait liberation war and the sacrifices made by the Senegalese troops in that war.
On his part, Al-Nami said he discussed with the Senegalese officials ways of launching partnerships between his society, on one hand, and the Senegalese heritage restoration society the Senegalese state departments, on the other.
"The planned partnerships aim to implement a national awareness project on a Kuwaiti initiative for sponsoring the talented students of Senegal," he revealed.
"The initiative was first raised by Sheikh Abdullah Al-Nouri Charity Society during an academic seminar and was adopted by the Senegalese heritage restoration society which promised to table it to Senegalese President Macky Sall," he explained.
Al-Nami added that his visit to the charity projects in Senegal aimed to verify compliance with the scientifically-oriented standards of the society which won ISO certificate and gauge the level of satisfaction of beneficiaries from the society's projects.
He called on the benevolent people of Kuwait to contribute to the society's sponsoring of Senegalese university students and post-graduate students through a monthly donation of KD 30 plus KD 20 contributed by the society.
He thanked Ambassador Khalaf and the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry and staffers of the embassy in Dakar for backing the activities of the society.
