
Jordanian King Abdullah II held talks Sunday with a US Congressional delegation headed by Chairwoman of the US House of Representatives' Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.
According to Royal Court statement, the talks, held at Al Husseinieh Palace, and focused on Jordanian-US ties and the latest developments in the Middle East, mainly the repercussions of the Syrian crisis on Jordan.
King Abdullah said Jordan was keen to forge closer cooperation and partnership between the two countries in various fields.
He also highlighted the burden imposed on his country's infrastructure and economy due to the host of 1.3 million Syrian refugees.
He urged the international community to increase its support to the Kingdom to enable it to continue providing humanitarian and relief services to the Syrian refugees.
The King cautioned that the current crisis in Iraq and the threats it poses to Iraq and the region as a whole, reiterating Jordan's keenness regarding the unity and stability of Iraq and its people.
Any solution to the crisis in Iraq, he said, should be based on a comprehensive political solution with the participation of all components of the Iraqi society without any exception.
With regard to the Middle East peace process, the King urged the international community to support the US-brokered talks to achieve peace between the two sides through addressing all final status issues and thus lead towards the establishment of an independent and viable Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
For their part, the members of the US delegation voiced their appreciation for the Jordanian King's efforts to achieve peace, security and stability in the region and solve problems facing the region
