
Kuwaiti charitable work has accomplished a great deal of humanitarian assistance to the needy everywhere in the spirit of seeking to stamp out poverty and deprivation and supporting growth and development, said a Kuwaiti official on Wednesday. In a speech opening the 14th meeting of the general assembly of the International Islamic Charitable Organization, Acting Prime Minister and Interior Minister and Acting Minister of Awqaf and Justice Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah said that Kuwait has garnered in recent times a reputation for being at the forefront of any endeavor to help people everywhere who may have fallen on unfortunate circumstances and need someone to lift them up. This reputation has resulted in the UN secretary general Ban Ki-Moon describing His Highness the Amir of Kuwait as "The Amir of Humanity." Moreover the Arab Family Organization has awarded HH the Amir its accolade for supporting humanitarian causes worldwide, said Sheik Mohammad. He furthermore extolled the work of all Kuwaiti charities that have extended their services to numerous villages in Turkey and Jordan and to many Syrian refugees in these two countries. On his part and in a similar speech to the general assembly, Abdullah Al Maatouq, President of the International Islamic Charitable Organization, said that the organization was continuing its work to help Syrian refugees as well as delivering humanitarian assistance to many countries, building there schools, hospitals, orphanages, and houses of worship, among other services to alleviate the plight of the poor and bring them some much-needed hope
