The international conference for Gaza's reconstruction is scheduled to get underway here later on Sunday with participation of a senior-level Kuwaiti delegation headed by the foreign minister.
Main topic of the gathering, co-organized by Egypt and Norway, attended by representatives of 50 states, the UN and Arab League chiefs, is devising plans to rebuild the Palestinian strip, badly damaged in Israel's latest wide-scale offensives on the enclave.
The Kuwaiti delegation is topped by the First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, who arrived in Cairo Saturday.
Kuwait's participation in the Arab-international convention comes against backdrop of its recent designation by the United Nations as a "Humanitarian Center," a gesture that reflected the international community's appreciation for the Gulf State's numerous humanitarian campaigns at the regional and international levels.
His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who was also honored by the international organization and granted the title, "Humanitarian Leader," announced a donation of USD 34 million for the Palestinians in January, intended to cover needs of the UN relief agency, UNRWA.
In March, Kuwait announced donation of USD 200 million for the Palestinian Authority.
It had previously declared commitment to pay USD 300 million to back up the authority. This pledge was made during the international donors' conference, hosted by Paris in December 2007.
In November 2012, Kuwait signed an accord with the World Bank, contributing with USD 50 million to support the Palestinian reconstruction program. Last July, it donated USD 10 million to aid the Palestinians.
Moreover, Kuwait had also dispatched scores of convoys loaded with relief supplies to the Palestinians.
