The Constitutional Court postponed on Wednesday (case no.8 for the year 2014) regarding the constitutionality of some articles in the law to a court hearing in January.
The case has to do with the articles nos.12,16, and 20 of the right of assembly law and with article 24 of the criminal law. In its last Nov. 26 session, the Constitutional Court had held back on reaching a sentence regarding case no.8. The Court will decide on it on January 7, 2015, pending the Court's perusal of documents to be submitted by the Public Prosecutor's office.
Furthermore, a court of First Instance had turned over criminal case no. 83 for the year 2013 on behalf of the Public Prosecutor to the Constitutional Court for its decision regarding the constitutionality of article no. 24 of the law no.31 for the year 1970 which some citizens brought to the attention of court authorities.
The citizens petitioning the court authorities sought amendments to some articles of the criminal law, particularly the aforementioned ones (12,16,20). The citizens' concern is basically about the constitutionality of some articles of the right of assembly law.
