Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah received on Wednesday head of the Journey of Hope team Yousif Al-Jassim and team members.
During the meeting, the minister said he was following up the journey since it began until its return to Kuwait, the Security Media Dept. of the Interior Ministry said in a statement.
The Minister praised the idea of the journey and its noble goal to draw international attention to care for people with mental disability through encounters with other disabled persons at several foreign ports.
The Minister noted that the trip has sent a clear message to the whole world on "the ability of our children with mental or physical disabilities to assert themselves in various fields whatever the difficulties might be," according to the statement.
He underscored the notion that the long trip around the world to bring attention to the cause of the mentally-challenged reflected the government's penchant to serve the needs of that sector of society which requires encouragement to be assimilated into the workforce and be productive.
Meanwhile, members of the Journey expressed their appreciation and thanks to various sectors of the Interior Ministry, including support to the cause of the mission and to children with disabilities.
Earlier, First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah met with the caretakers of the recent global tour known as the Journey of Hope which promoted the cause of the mentally-challenged.
The Minister discussed the sailing tour with chairman and members of the board of trustees undertaking the global trip and with the crew of the boat making that trip.
The Journey of Hope crossed 126,000 kilometers and visited 20 countries over 215 days.
