Foreign Minister, Ramtane Lamamra set out in New York President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika’s counterterrorim vision based on a multi-dimensional long-term strategy.
While addressing the UN Security Council high-level summit, he recalled Algeria’s pioneering role in the fight against terrorism and its perseverance for the adoption of a comprehensive approach against this scourge that recognizes no boundaries, no religion, no nationality.
Lamamra also reaffirmed Algeria ‘s support to the Resolution on foreign terrorist fighters. He has, however, emphasized the lack of the measure that needs to be efficient, to be supported by substantial work to overcome, in the world and especially in the Middle East, the injustices of denial of rights, and frustrations that can serve as a breeding ground for extremism and radicalization.
The Algerian minister was speaking in the moment when the murder of Frenchman, Hervé Gourdel was announced. Lamamra offered his condolences to the family of the victim and the French government and renewed Algeria’s firm condemnation of this heinous act, ensuring that no effort will be spared to arrest the criminals and bring them to justice.
The commitment of Algeria to combat it will be even stronger, he insisted said.
Lamamra recalled the recent release of the two Algerian diplomats kidnapped in Gao (Mali) and paid tribute to the memory of those who lost their lives during their captivity, saying "we do never forget them."
