Lebanese activists throw eggs at government HQ

Lebanese activists hurled eggs at the government HQ to protest the garbage crisis in the capital and reject a decision to export the trash abroad.

The garbage dumping plan has been denounced by local and international waste experts as not only likely illegal but also environmentally irresponsible.

The activists then headed and raided the Environment Ministry building. Security forces arrived at the scene to get them out.

The garbage collection crisis erupted in July after authorities closed Naameh, the primary landfill for Beirut and the surrounding coastal governorate of Mount Lebanon, without providing an alternative. Mountains of garbage were left to pile up in the country's capital.
