Militants Thursday have mostly withdrawn from Arsal, a Lebanese border town they seized recently, Lebanese Army Chief Gen. Jean Kahwaji said in a statement, adding that military situation of the army is very good.
The Lebanese Army carried out today a military operation in Arsal, releasing seven members of security forces held by militants, security reports in Al-Bekaa said.
The reports added that those members were hiding behind the clinic of Rafiq Al-Kariri and the army managed to locate their places and communicate with them.
The reports pointed out that there is a cautious calm in Arsal.
The Association of Muslim Scholars, headed by Hossam Ghali, had been mediating an end to five days of fighting in Arsal for the release of the remaining captives held by militants whose incursion into Lebanon marked the most serious spillover of Syria's three-year-old civil war into Lebanese territory.
Dozens of people have been killed in the battle between the Lebanese army and Islamists from groups including the Islamic State, which has seized large areas of territory in Iraq and Syria.
