Lebanese Customs managed to arrest a gang of drug traffickers on Thursday and seized a large container with nearly 2 tons of drugs bound for Egypt, Finance Minister said in a statement.
Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil said that the Customs elements managed to "foil the attempt to ship the drugs camouflaged by boxes of fruit," without specifying the date or place of attempt.
He praised the customs' efforts to ensure the success of the security plan, pointing that the "coordination with the Judiciary authorities and the Internal Security Forces is at its highest level to confront all drug gangs."
Lebanon has recently thwarted several attempts to smuggle drugs and Captagon pills to Gulf states, and arrested many traffickers.
