Libya welcomes formation of Islamic military coalition against suicide

Libya has welcomed the formation of an Islamic military coalition to fight terrorism.

The coalition, which is led by Saudi Arabia, was announced Monday night and groups 34 Arab and Muslim countries.

Libyan Foreign Minister Mohamed al Diyari said he held talks with his Saudi counterpart Adel al Jubair, during which the latter asked if Tripoli could be one of the founders of the coalition.

Normally, Libya agreed to that, especially in light of the big challenges that face the Arab and Muslim worlds, atop of which the terrorism of Daesh and other groups, Diyari said.

Besides Gulf countries, the coalition also includes Egypt, Turkey and Pakistan.

A joint operations center is set to be established in Riyadh, according to Saudi media outlets.

Saudi Defense Minister Mohamed bin Salman said the new coalition will coordinate efforts to fight extremists in Iraq, Syria, Libya, Egypt and Afghanistan.
