The Libyan parliament has condemned in the strongest words the beheading of 21 Egyptian abductees by Daesh elements who are controlling the city of Sirte.
In a statement Sunday, the parliament condoled with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, the Egyptian government and people, as well as families of the victims.
The parliament is the legitimate authority in Libya and is voicing full solidarity with Egyptians, the statement read.
This terrorist operation will not affect historical relations between Libya and Egypt.
The parliament announced a three-day mourning and lowered flags at state institutions.
It called on the Libyan people to unite in the face of terrorists and support the Libyan army and institutions.
A Daesh video released Sunday showed the beheading of 21 Egyptian Christians in the city of Sirte.
The Egyptians had been kidnapped in December.
