The presidential terms of office will be limited to two five-year terms, according to an amendment proposed for the revision of the Constitution, and sent Thursday to the leaders of political parties and figures. The article 74 of the Constitution has been amended and reformulated as follows: "the presidential term is five years. The President of the Republic may be re-elected once only," said the draft amendment published Friday on the website of the Presidency of the Republic. In addition to the limitation of the presidential terms, the proposed amendments to the Constitution stipulate that the President of the Republic "shall be the Commander in Chief of all the Armed Forces of the Republic and Minister of National Defence. He shall decide and conduct the foreign policy of the Nation." The article 89 of the Constitution has been amended as follows "When the candidate submits his candidacy application for the presidential election to the Constitutional Council, he shall not withdraw from the race except in the event of death or legal impediment duly confirmed by the Constitutional Council." ''When one of the candidates of the second round of the presidential election dies, withdraws or is hindered for any other reason, the President of the Republic in office or who assumed the function of Head of State remains in office until the proclamation of the election of the President of the Republic. In this case, the Constitutional Council extends the period of organizing the election for a maximum period of sixty (60) days."
