Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab called on Tuesday for freeing the Middle East of nuclear weapons.
"This kind of weapons does not only threaten the region, but also poses a threat to the whole world," Mahlab said in statements while receiving Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano.
Mahlab reiterated Egypt's keenness on bolstering cooperation with the IAEA in the field of peaceful use of nuclear power.
"El Dabaa nuclear power plant is a hope for all Egyptians," Mahlab said, adding that the phenomenon of terrorism poses a threat to the entire world.
Amano, for his part, hailed a leading role played by Egypt in Africa, noting that cooperation is underway between the IAEA and the Egyptian authorities on el Dabaa nuclear power plan.
He added that Cairo will host a workshop on the plans to support nuclear security in the Arab countries during the period from 13 to 16 April.
