
Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab on Monday witnessed the signing ceremony of a contract to establish the first logistic services center in Tanta, Gharbiya governorate, as part of the government's strategic plan to establish logistics and trade areas all across the nation by 2030.
The contract was clinched between Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Khaled Hanafi, representing the administrative body of the Interior Trade Ministry, the Chief Exective Office (CEO) of Werner Global Logistics, the company which are tasked to develop the project, and Orascom Construction deputy CEO.
The project, to be set up on 82 feddans area, is set to cost EGP800 million and to take around 3 years to finish, which will provide 50,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
Following the signing ceremony, Hanafi said the agreement comes in line with the targets outlined by Egypt Economic Development Conference to set up logistic services centers across the country with the aim of giving more incentives for investors in the public and private sectors.
He pointed out that the administrative body of the Interior Ministry have signed memorandum of understanding with Orascom and Aramex to develop five logistic zones in five governorates (Gharbiya, Assiut, Beheira, Giaza and Port Said, with total investments of up to EGP one billion, as a first phase of the national strategic plan to build 80 logistic areas by 2030.
Meanwhile, the CEO of Werner Global said the project enjoys a distinguished location as it is very close to the international road and would guarantee easy movement and transportation for importers, trucks and other beneficiaries from the project which would serve four governorates in the Nile Delta.
