Mohamed Ennaceur of Nidaa Tounes Party was elected, Thursday, Speaker of the Tunisian House of the People's Representatives (or parliament) with a majority of 176 votes from the 214 MPs in attendance.
The session chairman Ali Ben Salem announced that the counting committee had recorded 4 spoilt votes and 34 blank votes.
Then, the MPs elected Abdelfattah Mourou of Ennahdha Party as a First Deputy Speaker and Faouzia Ben Feddha of the Free Patriotic Union (UPL) as Second Deputy Speakers.

He served as social affairs minister under Habib Bourguiba during the 1970s and 1980s.
