Alexandria Port police have foiled an attempt to smuggle more than 26 million pills of counterfeit medicine into Egypt.
The seized drugs, whose source is unknown, do not meet the standards.
Acting on a tip, the port police searched a shipment of water coolers that also contained huge amounts of counterfeit medicines.
The drugs were hidden in the shipment.
The police arrested 34-year-old Adel S. A., who was delegated by the exporting company to finalize customs procedures.
He said he knew nothing about the content of the shipment.
Karim M. A. , 34, said he only received the delivery permit, insisting he also knew nothing about the content of the shipment.
All legal measures have been taken and an investigation will be launched.
