Mufti of Egypt Shawki Allam warned on Thursday youths against being dragged behind misleading fatwas of extremists and terrorists that are ascribed to Islam.
Speaking to Al Azhar University students, he said those extremists and terrorists rely on these misleading fatwas to deceive people.
Certain regulations govern fatwa issuance, foremost among which is the person or the body that issues them, he said, adding that specialized people who are well aware of the principles of Islamic Sharia and Quran rulings and who are fully understand their reality should be the ones who issue fatwas.
Fatwas would not be correct if the issuer failed to understand the reality around him, he said.
He urged the students to shoulder their responsibility towards protecting the moderate teachings of Al Azhar
