Arab League secretary general Nabil al-Araby
Sharm el-Sheikh - MENA

The Arab League Secretary General Nabil el Araby addressed the 26th Arab Summit in Egypt's Sharm el Sheikh town on Saturday.
El Araby congratulated Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for heading the 26th session of the Arab Summit, hoping success for him in administrating the joint Arab work during this critical phase in the history of the Arab region.
He also hailed efforts exerted by the Kuwaiti Emir Sabah al Ahmad al Jaber al Sabah in heading the past session of the Arab Summit where he dealt with the issues of the nation with wisdom and experience.
He addressed El Sisi saying that the Arab nation changes a lot and thus the Arab League (AL) should cope with this change with its establishments and institutions .
The Arab world, since the establishment of the AL 70 years ago, faced great challenges such as interfering in its internal affairs and threatening the sovereignty of its countries, the AL chief said, adding that many countries were occupied.
The Palestinian cause is the greatest challenge that faces the AL, el Araby underscored, noting that the Arab region will not achieve security or stability because of the Israeli occupation to the Palestinian territories.
The Palestinian issue needs achieving a comprehensive, permanent and fair solution by establishing two independent states on the borders of 1967 and with East of Jerusalem(AL Quds) as its capital, the AL chief reiterated.
The AL secretary general said also that he supports the launching of the "Operation Decisive Storm" military operation against Houthis in Yemen to restore the stability and legitimacy of Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi.
The Arab League Secretary General Nabil el Araby said that the Syrian crisis extends for the fifth year in a row, adding that it has grave repercussions on the Arab national security.
The international community could not find a solution to this crisis so as to fulfill the aspirations of the Syrian people who want to achieve freedom as well as peaceful and democratic change, he reiterated.
He also underscored that Libya is witnessing a state of chaos, noting that a political solution should be reached in this Arab country to attain its unity and sovereignty.
As for Somalia, there are steps to rebuild the country after decades of chaos, el Araby underlined.
He said also that preserving the national Arab security needs creating a comprehensive strategy to face threats represented by a new generation of armed terrorist organizations which benefit from social and political problems to recruit youth who are victims of extremism.
He noted that the summit will discuss an important draft resolution pertaining to forming a joint Arab force which is a historic development that copes with joint Arab action.
The AL chief said that combating terrorism and extremism cannot be achieved by security and military sides only, but this entails intellectual and cultural aspects as well.
