
The Member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) expressed on Saturday their support to Yemen and President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi's efforts to complete the transition process.
During the coordination meeting of the OIC at the level of the foreign ministers, which was held today in New York on the sidelines of the 69th session of the UN General Assembly, Foreign Minister Jamal al-Salal voiced in his speech the aspiration of Yemen to strengthen coordination and cooperation with Saudi Arabia during the period of its presidency of the organization in various areas.
In his speech, al-Salal reviewed the strides made by Yemen in the stages of the transition based on the GCC-brokered initiative and its mechanism, noting that Yemen is about to complete the most important entitlement of the transitional phase, which the drafting of the new constitution of Yemen.
He pointed out that despite what has been achieved, but there are still several challenges before Yemenis during the next phase, expressing his confidence that Yemenis with the support of all brothers and friends will go beyond this stage.
Al-Salal touched on the recent developments in Yemen, indicating that the peace national partnership agreement has been signed under the supervision and good offices of the United Nations, as well as the efforts made by President Hadi to spare Yemen sliding into conflicts.
The foreign minister urged the international community to carry out its responsibilities to support the President's efforts to enhance the role of the state and its capabilities to overcome the current challenges so as to preserve the unity, security and stability of Yemen and ensures the success of the political transition.
He pointed to the size of the financial and economic difficulties experienced by Yemen and their repercussions on the stability in general and increasing of the political and security problems, as well as the escalation of conflicts ,violence and extremism, including activities of the armed terrorist organizations.
He went on saying, "For this, Yemen put a national strategy to combat terrorism and it needs the international community support to be applied on the ground."
The minister stressed, in this regard, the importance of the role that could be played by the international community through the Group of Friends of Yemen to support the Yemeni government through accelerating the fulfillment of the pledges.
In his speech also, the minister touched the importance of enhancing coordination and attitudes among the Islamic states towards various issues, especially the issues of Arab and Islamic worlds.
