Representative of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Hamas Movement in Tehran Khaled Al-Qadoumi strongly condemned the recent Israeli attacks on the people of Gaza, and underlined that Palestinians should continue their armed struggle against Tel Aviv.
"The only mechanism for liberating Palestine is resistance and we have no option other than supporting the resistance," Al-Qadoumi said, addressing a conference on Gaza in Tehran on Monday.
He reiterated that Hamas will not talk to those who are willing to make compromise and have negotiations with Israel.
Al-Qadoumi pointed to the resistance of Palestinian groups against Israel, and said, "We hope to be able to make our missiles more advanced with the help of the knowledgeable Iranians."
He noted that what has happened in Gaza is a full-fledged human tragedy, and said, "The places that have been targeted by the Zionist regime were protected areas according to the international law that Israel should not have targeted them."
Al-Qadoumi pointed to the reason for accepting the 72-hour truce with Israel by Hamas, and said, "One of the reasons for accepting the truce by Hamas was enabling us to reopen ways for transferring the injured Palestinians and achieving our other goals."
On Sunday, Hamas Chief Khalid Mashaal said in an interview in Doha that a lasting truce must lead to the lifting by Israel of its blockade of the Gaza Strip.
Mashaal noted that the 72-hour ceasefire Hamas reached with Israel on Sunday "is one of the ways or tactics to ensure successful negotiations or to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza".
He said that the final "goal we insist on is having the demands of Palestinians met and the Gaza Strip exist without a blockade".
"We insist on this goal. In the case of Israeli procrastination or continued aggression, Hamas is ready with other Palestinian factions to resist on ground and politically and... to face all possibilities," Mashaal added.
