Libya's outgoing Prime Minister Abdullah Thinni said on Tuesday that he will wait for a judicial decision before he hands over power to the new premier.
"Regarding the legal challenge I wish to respect the law, there is an appeal submitted and will be adjudicated on Thursday," Thinni said.
Thinni earlier refused to transfer his power to elected premier Ahmed Maitiq, citing the parliamentary vote had given " contradictory results" and thus wanting a judicial decision on whether it is valid.
Thinni said he has been in contact with his successor Maitiq and they have "no disagreement," but he added the main problem now is the deeply divided parliament.
In early May, Maitiq was chosen as the new prime minister in a controversial parliamentary vote. A number of lawmakers, including Vice President of the Parliament Azzedine Awami, immediately charged that the voting process was against the law, while President of the Parliament Nuri Abu Sahmein insisted that the vote was fair.
The confusion over the vote has lasted for nearly a month. Some analysts said that Libya technically has three prime ministers at the moment -- Maitiq, Thinni and Ali Zeidan, the last of whom was ousted by the parliament in March but still claims his legitimacy.
The Libyan parliament has been stuck in a political deadlock between secular and Islamist interest groups since the 2011 popular protests that toppled the country's former leader Muammar Gaddafi.
