Passengers have been increasingly using Sadat Metro train after it was re-opened early Wednesday for the first time since August 2013.
The Sadat station is one of two connections between Metro lines 1 and 2.
It is one of the most overcrowded stations, located underneath the Tahrir Square.
The Sadat station has been re-opened ahead of the fasting month of Ramadan to reduce pressure on the overcrowded el Shohadaa station, said chairman of the metro company Ali Fadaly in statements to MENA.
The el Shohadaa station is the second connection between Metro lines 1 and 2.
The Sadat station has been re-opened in coordination with security bodies, Fadaly said, assuring that measures have been taken to secure the station.
Surveillance cameras and electronic gates have been installed to secure the station, he said.
