King Abdullah II of Jordan
Amman - Petra

Political figures have called for adopting a pan-Arab nationalist enterprise to confront extremist thoughts from the Takfiri organizations that aim to distort the image of Islam and incite sedition and hatred among societies.
In statements to Petra, they warned of the dangerous phase the region is passing through and stressed the need for concerted efforts to face terrorism and extremism.
Secretary General of the National Constitutional Party Ahmad Al Shunnaq said that Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II and through its keenness for Arab solidarity and through its role in serving Arab issues, could form a base as a nucleus for this enterprise.
Further, Sunnnaq called for differentiating between religious thoughts that are persons' judgments and Islam, which has clear principles.
The secretary general affirmed the ability of the Jordanian army and the security agencies in protecting Jordan from threats by terrorist organizations and cautioned against tolerating those who promote thoughts and ideas about such organizations.
He also emphasized the need for joint international cooperation to confront the threats of extremist organizations, such as the IS, to world peace.
Meanwhile, Senator and Islamic researcher Nawal Faouri said that all political, partisan and social segments of Jordanian society should reach a consensus to counter terrorist organizations that threaten Jordan.
In a statement to Petra, the senator urged all segments of society to confront possible threats, mainly extremist organizations, stressing the need to cooperate with all countries to confront terrorism.
Senator Faouri also called upon Islamic scholars and thinkers to clarify Islam's moderate stances towards political and social issues and reject ideas and thoughts that contradict Islam and its moderation in times of peace and war.
Faouri affirmed the importance of addressing issues and problems that cause political congestion and forced migration in the region, the solutions of which have not been found for decades.
The senator highlighted the need to continue the reform process, in line with the King's vision, and approve an election law that is supported by all segments of society.
Additionally, the President of Jordan Women's General Union, Nuha Maaytah, said terrorism and extremism are a threat to Jordan and lead to instability in the region and the world, thus affecting world peace and security.
"Confronting terrorism and extremism cannot be done only through the efforts of the security agencies and the government, but needs regional and international cooperation," she added.
She also welcomed Jordan's participation in any Arab, regional or international alliance to deal with terrorism.
Also, Maaytah praised Jordan's role under the King's leadership to counter terrorism and extremism to protect the higher interests of the country. She also hailed the government's role in spreading a culture of tolerance, peace, justice and equality and the rejection of violence through school and university education.
