President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika has received Wednesday in Algiers the diplomat and former minister of Foreign Affairs, Lakhdar Brahimi.
In a statement to the press at the end of the audience, Brahimi said that he extended his greetings to President Bouteflika on the occasion of Eid ul-Adha and exchanged views with him on the recent developments in the region.
"I extended my greetings to the President of the Republic on the occasion of Eid ul-Adha, and we exchanged views on what is happening in our region, in the east, west, north and south," said Brahimi, who was pleased with the "improvement" of the health of President Bouteflika.
He also said that "he discussed for a long time with President Bouteflika the unstable situation in the region, especially in Mali where Algeria is playing a key role as part of a joint action with other countries to help this neighbouring country resolve its problems, in addition to the situation in Libya, Syria and Yemen, as well as Algeria's relations with other countries."
Brahimi, who has been recently appointed to the African Union Panel of Wise, also discussed with President of the Republic his new mission and expressed thanks to the AU for this appointment.
In this regard, Brahimi said that he will spare no effort in handling issues concerning the African continent.
The last position held by Brahimi was the United Nations and the Arab League's Envoy for Syria, from which he resigned.
His resignation took effect on May 31.
