Prime minister discusses region, Syrian crisis with Center for International Relations and Sustainable Development president

 Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, Nasser Judeh, Wednesday discussed with President of the Center for International Relations and Sustainable Development (CIRSD), Vuk Jeremic the latest developments in the region, especially the Syrian crisis. Judeh's talks with CIRSD's official, who also served as Serbia's foreign minister prior to being elected president of the 67th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, tackled means to implement the statement issued by the International Syria Support Group in Munich. Discussions also touched on updates relating to the Syrian conflict including the cessation of hostilities, reduction of violence, as well as the supply of humanitarian aid to people caught up in the conflict.

Judeh reiterated Jordan's constant position the Kingdom had adopted since the start of the Syrian conflict, supporting a political solution that guarantees Syria's security, safety and territorial integrity and inclusive of all components of the Syrian people.

He stressed the importance of a comprehensive solution according to UN Security Council resolution 2254, the Geneva 1 proposals and statements issued by the international support group for Syria in its meetings in Vienna, New York and recently in Munich.

The minister briefed Jeremic about the burden placed on the Kingdom's infrastructure and the difficult economic conditions facing the country as a result of the increasing influx of Syrian refugees.

The two officials stressed the need to intensify international efforts to fight terrorism and extremism, which pose a threat to the region and the whole world.

Jeremic visit aims at preparing and submitting recommendations for the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace for the project of the impact of the Syrian refugees influx on the Kingdom .

Jeremic declared intentions to file his candidacy for the post of the UN Secretary General at the end of next year, saying if elected he would concentrate on five main topics including sustainable development, climate change, peacekeeping, security, humanitarian issues, human rights as well as other issues relating to work of UN agencies.
