Cartoonist Islam gawish
Cairo - Arab Today

Cartoonist Islam Gawish will remain in custody until security investigations on why he was present at a place, where pirated and unlicensed devices and programs are used, reach the prosecution, head of Nasr City prosecution Mohamed Hetta ordered.

Security forces had raided the place used by a news network “Akhbar Misr” upon a prosecution warrant to arrest Fayed Mohsen over using unlicensed devices and pirated computer applications in violation of the communications and intellectual property laws.

Gawish was at the venue during the security search. He was taken to the prosecution to be quizzed on why he was there.

Gawish is most known for his work with Al Waraqa (The Paper). He mixes methods of caricature and memes on simple lined paper and has a popular Facebook page with over one million followers. His comics focus mainly on social issues in Egyptian society.
