The Public Prosecution on Monday mourned the death of Prosecutor General Hesham Barakat.
Egypt lost a prominent judicial figure who was always committed to the profession's ethics and morals, the public prosecution said in a statement on Monday.
“Barakat is a martyr of the public prosecution and the Egyptian judiciary,” read the statement.
The prosecutors are not afraid of terrorism or treachery, added the statement.
The public prosecution has launched an investigation immediately following the heinous terror act, the statement said.
The prosecution will continue investigation until bringing the perpetrators to justice in order to be punished.
Barakat died of wounds he sustained after a blast targeted his motorcade near the Military Academy in eastern Cairo.
Barakat was severely injured in the blast and all bids to save him failed, said the statement.
