The State of Qatar has reaffirmed that the Palestinian people should enjoy full rights and sovereignty over the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and that the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan should also enjoy their rights and their natural resources. It also stressed that Israel should fully comply with its obligations under international law, in order to reach a comprehensive and just settlement to achieve peace in the region, which is the demand of the entire international community.
This came in a statement delivered by Ahmed Saif Al Kuwari, Third Secretary at the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, before the United Nations Committee II (Economic and Financial) about the item, "Permanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, and the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan over their natural resources".
Carried by Qatar News Agency, QNA, the statement emphasised that Qatar was deeply concerned about points highlighted by the report of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, ESCWA, which included multiple and widespread violations of human rights of the Palestinian people and their right to development and self-determination, which, in 2014, reported the highest toll of casualties among Palestinian civilians since 1967, reaching unprecedented level of destruction.
The statement stressed the importance of Protection of Education which is clearly outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that everyone has the right to learn. In this regard, Qatar renewed its call for continuing efforts to prevent attacks on schools, according to the provisions of international humanitarian law and international human rights law, and in accordance with the relevant Security Council resolutions, the statement added.
