
Qatari Red Crescent is continuing its tireless efforts to support the people of Gaza Strip who are languishing under the Israeli occupation forces aggression which continued for 45 straight days and resulted in n the fall of 2039 martyrs and 10,302 wounded since the beginning of the aggression. Facilities of health and water as well as10602 houses and mosques had been destroyed.
Within the framework of the emergency relief programme being carried out, QRC finalized the restoration of Al-Wafaa Hospital for rehabilitation and specialized surgery and re-equipped it with furniture and new medical devices after Israeli occupation forces destroyed it entirely a month ago. Medical staff and patients were moved to new premises at Al-Zahra in the area south of Gaza City following the demolition of the hospital.
On the nature of the emergency assistance for Al-Wafaa hospital to fulfill, Director of QRC Office in Gaza Strip, Dr. Akram Nassar: “We have allocated, in coordination with the Islamic Development Bank, the amount of USD 126 thousand for equipping the new centre of Al-Wafaa Hospital with medical devices such as ultrasound, sterilization and physiotherapy devices, oxygen cylinders and furniture for patient rooms, so the hospital can continue to provide services to the public in spite of the aggression.”
Nassar explained that the new centre is equipped with 80 beds, 40 of them allocated for the elderly care centre, while the remaining beds were devoted to the clinical rehabilitation services.
The Israeli aggression against Gaza has so far caused eight hospitals to stop working out of 25 in Gaza. As a result, the available stock of medicines and medical requirements has dwindled alarmingly. Besides, due to the siege, more than 30% of basic medicines and 55% of medical necessities have already run out.
