Sleuths from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ministry of Interior (MoI) have arrested a three-member gang for attempting to circulate counterfeit currency here.
"The Asian gang, including a woman accomplice, attempted to circulate fake GCC currency bills worth 35,000 Dirhams," MoI's Public Relations department said.
Following a lead from a source, detectives from CID's Economic Crime Prevention department raided a shop here where a woman in GCC attire tried to pass off 500 Dirhams of fake currency.
Detectives confirmed after investigation that there were several complaints of similar nature, the MoI said.
The gang members confessed to their crime to officers during interrogation and admitted they had paid Rupees 60,000 in their country to get the fake currency.
The suspects were referred to Public Prosecution for further investigation and legal proceedings, the MoI added.
