Qatar Charity has announced the launch of an urgent relief campaign for the benefit of those affected by the worsening humanitarian situation in Yemen.
The ‘Yemen .. We are with you’ campaign aims to collect over QAR 36 million in the first stage, in order to provide immediate assistance in the areas of food and medicine for 1,260,000 people across Yemen.
The campaign comes under the auspices of HE Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Jassim Al-Thani, QC General Supervisor of Quality projects in Yemen, and will involve the distribution of food baskets containing basic food items, fresh food and children's milk and food, in addition to the distribution of medical disposables and medicines.
The humanitarian crisis experienced by Yemen for the past few months has exacerbated the humanitarian situation in various fields, particularly those that affect the daily life of citizens. Hundreds of thousands of people are without water and electricity, food and fuel are scarce, and there has been an almost total collapse of medical services due to electrical outages and lack of medicines and medical disposables. Significant internal displacement from major cities to rural areas has also increased human suffering.
In a press statement, Al Thani urged residents and citizens of the State of Qatar to donate to the campaign in order to alleviate the suffering of the affected, noting the exceptional circumstances experienced by Yemen for several months now.
The campaign provides food baskets consisting of five major types of food supplies for 1,098,990 people, infant milk for 85,910 children, fresh food for 5,100 people in hospitals, in addition to medical disposables for 40,000 people and medicines for 30,000 people.
Donors can contribute to the campaign by donating the value of products (food baskets, cans of milk, fresh foods, medical disposables or drugs), directly to the QC head office and branches across the state, to QC collectors stationed in shopping malls, via the QC website qcharity.org/yemen, or by bank transfer to the following Islamic Bank account: IBAN: QA58QISB008186660150200000110.
You can also donate via Ooredoo or Vodafone text message by sending (YN) to 92429 to donate QAR one thousand, to 92428 to donate QAR 500, to 92642 to donate QAR one hundred, to 92632 to donate QAR 50 and to 92133 to donate QAR 25.
QC implemented a number of relief campaigns for the benefit of the Yemeni people in the period between 2008 and 2014 in the areas of health, food and shelter, at a total cost of QAR 27 million, benefitting 318,729 people.
QAR 6,320,000 was spent on food for the benefit of 187,157 people, QAR 4,919,000 in the field of health, benefitting 8105 patients, while in the area of shelter and non-food items QC spent QAR 4,890,000, for the benefit of 13,645 people. These projects benefitted 109,822 people, at a total cost of QAR 10,694,000.
QC has been working in Yemen since 1994 and provides services to needy people in all regions and in multiple areas, including health, water, education and social welfare, in addition to the establishment and furnishing of multi-service centers, seasonal projects, relief projects and economic empowerment projects for poor families, young people and women.
