The Ministry of Interior reported Saturday that the death toll of road accidents topped 225 people in the first six months of 2014.
The fatalities include 88 Kuwaiti citizens and the rest are foreign residents; they include 197 male victims, or 88 percent, and 28 females, the ministry reported, citing statistics of the Traffic Dept.
The report is released on the occasion of the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, being celebrated on the third Sunday of November every year.
People between 21 and 30 years accounted for the biggest number of victims - 50 fatalities, in the first half of the year, while people above 61 remained the least accident-prone age category.
With 71 cases, Al-Ahmadi Governorate was the venue of the biggest number of fatalities, while Mubrak Al-Kabir came last with only 17 cases.
The total number of road accidents, registered across Kuwait in this period amounted to 49,437 with Hawalli Governorate accounting for the biggest number, 13,610 accidents. Mubrak Al-Kabir saw 3,117 accidents, the fewest number.
The total number of registered vehicles topped 1,793,037. The Capital City accounted for the lion's share of 643,496 while Mubarak Al-Kabir, again, came last with only 97,348 vehicles, according to the report.
The number of traffic bookings hit 3,550,928, including 2,905, 457 indirect violations.
The value of fines levied amounted to KD 34,882,870, including KD 7,635,795 levied in the Capital City and KD 2,075,915.
A total of 37,194 vehicles have been seized including 12,697 in Mubarak Al-Kabir and 1,551 in Al-Ahmadi.
The number of detained motorists in connection with traffic violations topped 1,930 people with the number of driving licenses withdrawn from their owners amounting to 19,907.
