Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will work hard in cooperation with the legitimate government of Yemen, Arab and international partners, to end the suffering of Yemenis and resume peaceful dialogue, the Saudi embassy in Cairo said.
In a statement issued Tuesday on the developments in Yemen, the embassy said Saudi Arabia leads the countries that rallied in support of the Yemenis during the crisis since it began in 2011.
The kingdom's efforts led to the signing of Riyadh agreement in February 2011, the embassy said.
The Riyadh agreement stipulated the formation of a transition government, and outlining a roadmap included engaging in an inclusive national dialogue, writing a new constitution, and holding elections.
The UN sided with Saudi Arabia and its steps to end the violence in Yemen and resume the political process, the statement said.
The Riyadh Declaration called for restoring the Yemeni state and re-arranging its regional and international ties to meet the aspiration of all Yemenis.
Saudi Arabia welcomed the Geneva conference, which kicked of on June 16, but failed due to "the arrogance of Houthis and their refusal to hold talks with the legitimate Yemeni government."
