Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on Monday reaffirmed Saudi Arabia's firm support for the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital, and to achieve just and lasting peace for them.
The remark was made by the Saudi king during talks with visiting Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
The Saudi king urged the international community to shoulder its responsibilities and ensure the protection of the Palestinian people from the repeated Israeli attacks, it said.
During the meeting, they reviewed the current situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, the SPA added.
For his part, the Palestinian leader expressed appreciation of the stances of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia that support his country and the Palestinian people.
The meeting was attended by Crown Prince and Deputy Prime Minister Muqrin bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, several other senior Saudi officials and members of the Palestinian leader's accompanying delegation.
The Palestinian leader has already left Riyadh, concluding a just-one-day official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
