Security was tightened on Thursday in Suez governorate, especially in the vicinity of vital and security facilities, as well as Port Tawfiq city which is located to the south of the Suez Canal.
In statements Thursday, a security source said security leaderships, topped by Suez security chief Major General Gamal Abdel Bari, inspected security forces fanned out in Port Tawfiq city and Ahmed Hamdi Tunnel - which is an automobile tunnel under the Suez Canal linking the governorate to the Sinai Peninsula.
There are security convoys wandering in the governorate streets to intensify security.
Abdel Bari said all vital facilities, harbors and the southern entrance of the Suez Canal are safeguarded.
He added that there is a comprehensive plan for securing the governorate, underlining that policemen are on alert to face any acts of violence during celebrations of the Suez Canal inauguration on Thursday that will be attended by world leaders.
During the past 24 hours, security campaigns combed eastern and western Suez Canal as well as villages close to the Canal, Ataqa Mount and Ein Sokhna.
